MORE VALDEMAR MEDIEVAL CIVILIANS 1/72.

Hello all,

Just to reinforce my eclectic collection of figures here's some medieval civilians from Valdemar!
This is from the first set of civvies that they sold, a bit steep in the price department but I think they are worth every penny.
This is meant to be a noble(ish) and his missus walking along.I have visions of these two for a castle  dio I am gathering together.
I say gathering, its a Zvezda castle job and they have stopped producing the bloody stuff, so it's not easy getting hold of.
I am after the little watch towers that sit on the walls or tower corners but I might as well look for lord Lucan!
He started off with purple on his tunic but I was informed that mostly the clergy or royalty wore purple so I decided to (reluctantly) change him.
The woman does look a bit "up the duff" or been enjoying  some hog roast.
Here is some women going bout there daily business. The woman carrying the basket has a duck inside which was a tricky one to paint.
The woman in the middle is a serving wench minus a tray of beer, plus a woman balancing a basket on her head.
I will have to get the jewellers hack saw to tidy the bases up because
Next up is some market traders plying there trade. It would an idea to try and knock up a stall or a cart to go with them. I will have to save up and get the other "behaving badly" set.

I still have a few more of this set to paint and I am looking forward to slapping some paint on them.I think its the children and fighting men to go.

AIRFIX JB MODELS M119 105MM LIGHT GUN 1/76.

Hello all,

Long time no blog!
Well I am back off my holidays from deepest darkest Cornwall.A very nice place indeed, even managed to dodge the rain as well.
The M119 light gun is from Airfix/JB models and was meant to be apart of m Vietnam group build over on Benno's.
But I found out the yanks didn't buy it till after the Brits proved it worked  in the Falklands war, so that ruled that out!
I have built several of these guns in the past and really like this kit.You get two guns for your money and you can build two versions as well.The L118 has a longer barrel than the American M119.
It can also be built in the towed position.
I decided to try the airbrush on this job and had to give it several coats because I kept missing bits.
I drilled out the barrel and tried to make it look smokey from firing but the weathering pigment I used fell on its arse for this.
The rest of the gun was given a brushing of Tamiya weathering powder. But I should have put some more on the tyres, that might come if I get round to basing it.
I could also try making a crew for the gun as well.

UNDER FIRE MINIATURES SELOUS SCOUTS "ON PATROL" 1/72.

Hello all,

I finally got round to finishing something!
This was more of a chance to try a few new things out and see what happens.
I tried to go for a dry river bed look about this dio.I was going to try and use some Vallejo water effect but bottled it.
To be fair the river bed looked better as a dry one.I will endeavor to use it properly one day!
The base consists of one sheet of polystyrene packing foam cut in half and placed in each corner of the photo frame and the remaining slivers of foam was used to build up the landscape.
The river bed was covered in Vallejo stucco (white stuff like tip ex).A good layer of sand and gravel was spooned over the bed.
This might have not have been the best to have used for this bit as I am not sure if it has dried yet!
I had to get the airbrush out to finish  it off.
Some more woodland scenic rocks that I cast myself have been put around the base. Then came the PVA glue was spread over the whole base apart from the river bed and a sprinkling of small rocks and gravel followed by the ever present  sand.A follow up of rocks pushed into the sand  to give contrast.
Once left over night to dry the whole base was painted with Revell African brown apart from the river bed because it hadn't dried yet.
Then a quick sprinkling of MiG African mud pigment and gulf war sand.
The air brush came out to paint the river bed. Some silfor tufts got a good spray to lighten it up for a burnt look.
Next came the fun making my own trees.I want to make some "African" looking trees, you know the ones the stringy, flat at the top looking ones.I started by twisting about 15 strands of florist wire  and bunching them together in different strands. My first attempt was crap.It was huge and the the Vallejo pumice I used was just the wrong stuff, to sandy looking.

Once I got the rough shape I was after, I tried using Vallejo stucco to cover the wire.It took two coats of it to cover the wire.I think I need more wire probably a bit thinner to make more branch's but you live and learn. The foliage is from woodland scenic and works quite well, I am sure there is a lot better stuff to use.I used glue to keep it on the bracnhes on.The grass was glued on the base around the edges to show a "ford" type affair.A load more weathering pigment was spread around .Well there you go another base finally done.

MORE UNDER FIRE MINIATURES USMC 1/72 AND M119 GUN WIP.

Hello all,

These figures and gun are for a Vietnam group build, on Bennos forum.
Its a place where people all build the same era and bounce any ideas or reference material off each other to help out.
I finished these blokes off after five beers so I am happy they are still on there bases let alone painted!!

Yes, I know even more "Under fire miniatures" figures!!!!!But I have said it once I will say it again there are brilliant.
I used Vallejo medium olive with a heavy black wash. This time it worked out quite well. Not as bright green as last time, but I still had to lighten them up with some dry brushing with the medium olive to keep them the same as the other two blokes I have done.
Then a light dusting of Tamiya weathering powder, the ones that have three colours like make up, all over the figure.
The webbing is Vallejo khaki with again a black wash and a bit of dry brushing. Some people say you can really dry brush figures at this scale but I think its worth a try. Some times it works, some times it doesn't.
The flesh was given a good wash with Vallejo flesh tone that has seen to do the trick.
This is an Airfix 105mm light gun modelled as a M119 US version, with the shortened barrel.
I have knocked up a few of these and when I couldn't find the destruction's all was not lost.
Please excuse the paint job, but I am still learning how to use my new airbrush and spray booth.
A few more coats should sort out the bits I have missed.
I think I will need to invest in a new airbrush for finer details. The brushes came with the compressor if you know what I mean. Two brushes and a compressor with air tank for £75 quid you can't complain.
This is a team photo of the lads I am going to use for the dio of the "fire base under fire".Not sure and the bloke with the fist and bandanna yet but we will see.
