AIRFIX JB MODELS M119 105MM LIGHT GUN 1/76.

Hello all,

Long time no blog!
Well I am back off my holidays from deepest darkest Cornwall.A very nice place indeed, even managed to dodge the rain as well.
The M119 light gun is from Airfix/JB models and was meant to be apart of m Vietnam group build over on Benno's.
But I found out the yanks didn't buy it till after the Brits proved it worked  in the Falklands war, so that ruled that out!
I have built several of these guns in the past and really like this kit.You get two guns for your money and you can build two versions as well.The L118 has a longer barrel than the American M119.
It can also be built in the towed position.
I decided to try the airbrush on this job and had to give it several coats because I kept missing bits.
I drilled out the barrel and tried to make it look smokey from firing but the weathering pigment I used fell on its arse for this.
The rest of the gun was given a brushing of Tamiya weathering powder. But I should have put some more on the tyres, that might come if I get round to basing it.
I could also try making a crew for the gun as well.

Cheers for looking,   Rich.

I worked on 2 guns in the RAA, the M198 and the L119, I loved the M198even though it was a heavy SOB, and I hated the L119, not sure about the US or Brits but in Australia they made us travel with the barrel in the stowed possie (facing the towing eye) which meant everytime you deployed you had to remove a wheel to rotate the barrel, it was a pain in the ass, also the aussies use the Unimog as gun tractors for the L119, they require you jump from about 6ft high to dismount (which was always done at maximum speed) twisted my ankle a couple of times, hated working on that pea shooter, now the M198, thats a real gun. M198 crew could do it harder, longer and with a bigger bang.

It's from Airfix mate, used to be JB models. I think you can still get them on EBay.
